Buzzing Towards a Better Tomorrow: Beekeeper Enthusiasts Unite

The Bee Bank program is an association of many stakeholders with convergent interests who are aligned to SAVE THE BEES by addressing the intractable problems associated with managing honeybees sponsored by the Casey and Mariani families.

Together, we launched two programs;

1) Bee Bank Membership program designed to make easier for entry level beekeepers to begin to care for our honeybees.

2) Safe Bee habitat program designed to introduce honeybee colonies within safe urban households that typically have a wide variety of flowers to thrive on.

Problems associated with the decline of the honeybee are multi-causal, requiring a comprehensive set of solutions.

Not long ago, beekeepers were alarmed when 10-15% of the hives died over winter. Then, Colony Collapse Disorder emerged. Because beekeepers could not afford high death rates, they began to apply medication to combat diseases prophylactically. As this practice became the norm, ever-increasing death rates also became the norm.

In 2023-2025, the amount of medication given to bees was at an all-time high, and bee death rates were at an all-time high of 62%. Overmedicating eventually weakens the host and creates superbugs out of the pests we want to eliminate. This, in part, explains why honeybee death rates continue to climb.

The Bee Bank believes the long-term solution is environment and nutrition, not medication. However, judicial use of IPM systems is appropriate from time to time. Members agree not to practice prophylactic applications of medicine with their bee hives
